Random Walk

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. - Albert Einstein

The real story here that has been rattling around my brain the most is the story of innovation at the fringes beyond normalcy. Chris Dixon said when he made the investment in Coinbase that Bitcoin, “is one of the 5 best computer science ideas from the last forty years.” I agree. And, the idea that this brilliance came largely from one guy, acting in isolation, motivated largely by paranoia and distaste for existing financial infrastructure, is just wild. In this light the profile of Satoshi is the profile of an artist, or better yet, a maker. And like all makers, he is quirky, weird, one of the crazy ones.

Thanks to the transparency of the Bitcoin block chain, you can actually see that the FBI Bit-seizure has already happened. Reddit has located what looks to be the FBI’s Bitcoin wallet; there’s an influx of 27,000 Bitcoins into it starting on Wednesday, October 2. Someone has helpfully edited the blockchain information for the wallet so that its name is “Silkroad Seized Coins.”

What is the strangest reaction shown by an object when it is released in space?

Maybe the toughest animal on Earth? The waterbear is a “polyextremophile”

Answer by Skip Morrow:

How about a non-reaction for a living thing? The Tardigrade, otherwise known as a “Water Bear”) is the only known living thing that can survive the vacuum of space

Kinda cute, isn’t it?

From the wikipedia article: tardigrades can withstand temperatures from just above absolute zero to well above the boiling point of water, pressures about 6 times stronger than pressures found in the deepest ocean trenches, ionizing radiation at doses hundreds of times higher than would kill a person, and the vacuum of outer space. They can go without food or water for nearly 120 years, drying out to the point where they are 3% or less water, only to rehydrate, forage, and reproduce.

I would say that qualifies as a strange reaction.
